Cross Country Gliding from Burn

Show Details
Once members have gone solo and mastered the art of thermal soaring, the next great challenge is cross country flying. Pilots are encouraged to set themselves distance tasks in order to gain higher qualifications. Silver Distance can be as simple as a 50km down wind dash to a field landing. Next there is a 100km triangle diploma that must be completed at a minimum speed. Gold Distance / Diamond Goal flights over 300km and then Diamond Distance over 500km really test a cross country pilots soaring and navigation skills. To date only two 500km flights have been made from Burn - showing just how great a challenge such flights can be. The following pictures show some of the local BGA Turn Points used by Burn pilots when setting tasks and other local places of interest.
