Despite Burn being quite a long way from any hills we get surprisingly good wave if the conditions are just right. When the wind is from the South West or West we get Pennine wave. In these conditions the air is generally quite warm and if the sun is out then it is very pleasant indeed.
Having spent a some time studying the local maps some of us began to wander whether or not the North Yorkshire Moors might also produce wave at Burn in a Northerly wind. Eventually we worked out how to access this wave and on 17/02/05 we experienced an incredible wave day with climbs to 18,000ft close to RAF Church Fenton. However, with temperatures on the ground close to freezing, the temperatures at 18,000ft facing away from the low afternoon sun made frost bitten toes a real possibility.
