We invite you to come and experience the warmest of welcomes and the freedom of the skies over beautiful North Yorkshire with experienced pilots and instructors at Burn Gliding Club this summer.

Experience gliding

Gliding is the ultimate flying experience where you can thermal with the birds, riding the air currents, look at the countryside and take amazing photos. If you wish, you can take the controls of the glider for yourself with assistance from the instructors who are sat right there with you and in full control.

How much?

The great news is that gliding is a lot cheaper than most people think. We offer two ways of getting into the sky, either by being towed to 2000ft by the tug or alternately we can launch you between 1000ft and 1500ft into the air by our high speed winch.

Glider Launch Types

Which one should I go for?

An aerotow to 2000ft should give you a flight lasting around 20 minutes, the flight time from a winch launch is largely dependant on the weather but in summer a 15 - 20 minute flight should be quite possible. Both are equally exhilirating, however, we can only accommodate one method on the evening due to the amount of ground crew that we need to arrange. All our pilots, crews and instructors are volouteers who are very passionate about gliding and who will in turn do their utmost to ensure you have a great evening and an experience that will leave you smiling and wanting more.

Is it safe?

Everything we do in gliding and at Burn Gliding Club is done with your safety in mind. In order to fly you must fall into the follow categories:

• Weigh between 6 stone (84lb) and 17 stone (238lb)
• 14 years or older. (under 18's must be accomopanied by a parent / guardian)

What will I see?

A lot .... It's a big sky up there. Check out our gallery to see the kind of breath taking views you can expect when you glide from Burn.

And after the flight?

After all our guests have had their flight and the crew have put the gliders away, we retire to our spacious club house with its own bar and share our experiences. As we are situated on an old WW2 bomber base, we have lots of photos for you to enjoy. We also have many local takeaway shops that will deliver and we can arrange something to eat if you wish.

• Aerotow group - Minimum of 8 people
• Winch launch group - Minimum of 12 people
