Surfs Up ! - Northerly Wave 02/02/2013
by Alastair Mackenzie
Ballooning Forecast - low level inversion at 1000ft warming out by 11am. No significant inversions. No chance of wave. Just goes to show you cant believe everything you read !
Connected with northerly wave at 4300ft at A1m/M1 junction. Wave bars appeared to be oriented E / W with lumps of stationary cumulus marking the lift. A good climb up to 10,500ft gave the impression that something special was on the cards but having moved clear of the airway on the esat side of Leeds Bradford class D, I struggled to find any further coherent lift further east. Still the views made it all worth while despite frozen toes. Height gain 6201ft.
